If you only skim one post about this site’s members space, make it this one. WalkerJacob Hub is the quiet clubhouse for people I already trust — files, photos, people, and messages — not an open Discord and not the staff CMS.
You join by invite, or by requesting access and getting a yes. Signing in happens on hub.walkerjacob.com. The public site stays readable for everyone; friends should never feel like they walked into Admin (Hub is not Admin).
What Hub is for
Hub answers a small set of boring questions well:
- Can I drop a shoot or a zip for friends without a public Drive link?
- Can someone watch a cut and leave notes without another chat app?
- Can I find who “jwalker” is, DM them, and leave when I’m done?
- Can I share one file with a guest who never gets an account?
Everything below is built for that — gated membership, your shelf by default, and tools that stay out of the way.
Library: your shelf, stacks, and playback
Library is the private file shelf. Friends default to their own uploads (plus collaborator items). Browsing everyone else’s public drops is a permission, not the baseline — so a new member doesn’t inherit the whole house on day one (library that stays yours).
Stacks group files that belong together (same title). Upload a folder of photos, drop a .zip and let the server unpack it into a stack, or Stack together / Move to stack after the fact. Media playlists can group by those stacks too, so a multi-file shoot reads as one thing instead of a flat dump.
Large VODs actually Play through the tunnel — Range probes, faststart remux, posters for thumbs — so a multi‑GB clip isn’t a gray rectangle. Share landings show a calm loading state instead of a dead page.
Easy sharing (copy once, paste anywhere)
Share links are for guests and friends who just need a URL. Create a link, copy it, paste it into a DM, a text, or a post. Expiry and download caps exist when you want them. The raw secret isn’t kept in the database after mint — you see the full URL when you create it (share links without a memory for the secret).
Quick share on upload is the short path: name the drop, upload as ready + unlisted, and get copyable share URL(s) without a second trip through settings. Perfect for “here’s the file” moments.
You can also paste a screenshot or file from the clipboard (Ctrl/Cmd+V) straight into Library upload — no save-to-desktop detour.
Messages: quiet DMs with media that just works
DMs are inbox threads — message buttons on profiles, unread badges, opt-out if you don’t want them. No toast fireworks (People, quiet DMs, and standing).
Recent polish that matters day-to-day:
- Attach in a thread — Hub drops the file into a DM Share Library stack (ready + unlisted), mints a share link, and drops it into compose so the embed preview works when you send.
- Paste into compose the same way as upload — screenshot in, link out.
- Alerts and optional Web Push / home-screen install so you notice a message without living in a browser tab (Hub on your home screen).
People and profiles
Profiles carry a display name, bio, links, and avatar, with field-level privacy. There’s a searchable People directory so discovery isn’t “ask Jacob in chat.” Optional Standing is an activity signal you can hide — not Elo, not a leaderboard cosplay.
Guide and What’s new
New members get a real onboarding path: Guide (/hub/guide) is short how-to chapters with deep links into Hub, plus Longer story links back to clarifying posts on the public site. Signup, invite mail, and empty states point there.
What’s new (/hub/whats-new) is a light patch-notes backlog from the changelog — same story as the release numbers, without forcing anyone to read git.
Edits: watch the cut, leave the note
Edits is cut feedback, not an in-browser Premiere. Link a Library/Media export (including stacks of versions that share a title), watch with a sticky player, Mark here for timecodes, leave timed comments with your name on the timeline, pin one file for the crew. Start from Library/Media → Start review. Staff oversight stays under Admin Library, not Content.
Mail (optional)
Some roles get a real mailbox — IMAP/SMTP for desktop clients, and Open webmail via Hub sign-in into Roundcube. Message bodies live on the mail host, not next to drops in SQLite (Hub mailboxes, Cerb Email). Invites and login codes stay on transactional mail.
Soft edges: votes, helpers, reports
Quiet up/down votes lightly feed Standing and Recommended. Helpers can soft-hide and triage reports on Hub without friends feeling like they’re in a control panel. Account signals catch obvious alt/wipe nonsense. Still not a social network — just a house with labeled doors.
